Mission
To provide expertise and solutions in bioimage processing & analysis offering methods and reliable quantitative analysis to researchers and practitioners.
The Center for Image Analysis, CIMA, is a pilot center within the Beckman Institute at Caltech. It was established as a continuation of our previous center CAMBIA. It continues our commitment to tackle the increasing needs by Caltech labs and others of help and advice with bioimage processing & analysis.
Our mission is to research, develop, and deploy cutting edge computational image processing and analysis methods to help the Caltech community advance their discoveries. Through research & development, training, and close collaboration with other centers at the Beckman Institute, CIMA shares best practices so labs can concentrate on their scientific goals while we provide computing capabilities, software, and know-how to assist them in our areas of expertise.
The center employs existing methods and, when needed, develops new methods and software aimed to extract quantitative information from image data and applicable to diverse biological domains. It develops customized machine learning solutions that is accelerating the way we extract cell information from microscope images including their spatial organization. The center brings many years of expertise to solve image analysis problems that the labs themselves most often cannot afford and where our expertise in the development of algorithms, pipelines, and tools might be necessary to fulfill specific lab needs.
